Our next meeting on October 11, 2023 is titled “Tea Time” in an effort to showcase furniture that was built for the service of this traditional afternoon custom. We will discuss the historical significance and build parameters of these important pieces. Members of high society, (that would of course include the likes of CJWA members), would gather around in the afternoon to enjoy tea and light fare (now called a lunch) and discuss politics, world affairs and whether to cut pins or tails first when cutting dovetails. Anyone who has made tea table, traditional or modern, is welcome to participate and bring their projects in! (Let me know if you are bringing a project in!). For break we will indulge in a “spot of tea” and some treats.
Welcome back after our summer break! Our meeting this month will be on September 13, 2023. It will feature a few member speakers. Kyle Min will present a new folding table that he has built. Wilbur Pan will have a discussion on bandsaw set up and use. And Jim Braun will be talking about a small chest that he recently built. We look forward to seeing everyone there.
This month’s meeting on June 14 will feature Brian Holcombe. He will be sharing with us information about shoji. A little bit about it, the tools he uses and how to make it using modern and traditional techniques. If you would like to find out more about Brian, you can visit his website at:
The meeting on May 10 will be our annual Member’s Showcase! All members are requested to bring something in to show as we go around the room; even if it might not be an elaborate build and appear insignificant to you, all items are welcome! It could be something that you made in the past and have not shared with us yet, or a most recent project. This is a fun and informal event. We look forward to seeing everyone and their amazing projects!
